Biography

Valentinas Snitka is a Professor at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and the Director of the Research Center for Microsystems and Nanotechnology (RSMN). He received his Dipl. Eng. degree in Electronics from KTU in 1968, the PhD in Semiconductors Physics in 1975 and habilitation in 1991. He initiated and established Research center for Microsystems and Nanotechnology at KTU in 1998. His background includes technology transfer, knowledge management, RTD and innovation policy, and he sits on various European Union advisory committees on strategic and future issues. He was serving as a member of European Union Scientific and Technical Research Committee (CREST 2002-2006), EU 6th Framework programme Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (Priority 3) committee member, member of EU FP5 Innovation and SME committee. He was with research and training visits at International Study Center (Jerusalem), Twente University (The Netherlands), Danish Technical University, Wharton school University of Pennsilvania, University of Melbourne, Warwick University. He was a visiting professor at Semiconductors Physics and Photonics department, Campinas University, Brazil during 1993-1994. In 2007, Applied technology research organisation MIMOS Bhd, Kuala Lumpur has appointed him, as its new chief scientist for nanotechnology. In 2010 he was involved in European Nanobiotechnology Roadmap and Malaysia Nanomaterials Roadmap development as an invited expert. He is serving an European Commission as an expert and EU FP7 NanoBiotechnology Projects Technical Advisor, coordinated EU FP7 project "Center of Excellence for nanostructured materials", member of management committee of EU COST action TD1002 “European network on applications of Atomic Force Microscopy to NanoMedicine and Life Sciences“. His current research is oriented to application of Scanning Probe Microscopy methods and instrumentation for biomedicine, nano-Raman spectroscopy and imaging for materials research, synthesis of nanostructured materials, interaction of amyloid proteins with nanoparticles and membranes, nanotoxicology.
