The hospitality industry relies heavily on effective facilities management (FM) practices to ensure operational efficiency, service quality, and guest satisfaction. However, many hotels in developing economies face persistent challenges related to maintenance, energy management, infrastructure, and service delivery. This study examined and compared facilities management practices in Villa Garden Hotel and Rockview Hotel, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. A descriptive comparative research design was adopted, while data were collected from 168 respondents using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Descriptive statistical tools, including mean scores and mean difference analysis, were used for data analysis. The findings revealed that both hotels implement core FM practices such as maintenance and management systems, energy and utility management, waste and environmental management, health and safety measures, customer-focused facility services, and administrative oversight. Villa Garden Hotel recorded higher adoption levels in most FM practices, particularly in customer-focused services and energy management, whereas Rockview Hotel demonstrated relatively stronger waste and environmental management practices. The study further identified strategies for improving FM performance, including increased budgetary allocation, preventive maintenance practices, staff training, adoption of modern FM technologies, regulatory enforcement, and public–private partnerships. The study concludes that effective FM practices are essential for improving hotel operations and sustaining guest satisfaction. It therefore recommends increased investment in FM activities, continuous staff development, integration of smart technologies and renewable energy systems, and stronger collaboration between hotels and government agencies to enhance regulatory compliance and infrastructure support.
