Abstract
Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha are anadromous fish native to the Northern Pacific and Arctic Oceans. Fall Chinook salmon were introduced into Lake Oahe, a completely freshwater reservoir in the state of South Dakota (USA) in 1976. This population of landlocked fall Chinook salmon is entirely hatchery maintained; natural reproduction does not occur. These landlocked salmon exhibit different natural history and hatchery-rearing characteristics than anadromous Chinook salmon in their native range. This review consolidates the existing research on Lake Oahe landlocked fall Chinook salmon life history, artificial spawning, egg incubation, and hatchery propagation.
